In 1989 Renault decided to demonstrate the competitiveness and reliability of the Supercing GT Turbo by tacking part at the World Cup reserved for group N rallye cars. The program was entrusted to Edmond Simon who assembled a commando team.
Alain Oreille and Gilles Thimonier have won the group four times and won the title at the end of the season. But history will remember the absolute victory during the Côte d'Ivoire rally. A real feat, never reissued by another group N.
Associated with Michel Roissard, the Martigues pilot will leave for a second world campaign the following year, once again winning the title
Christophe Parent did not miss any edition of the Alsace Rallye Festival and will be at the start for the fourth time with his replica of the car entered at the Monte-Carlo 1990.
